Best hotels near Bangkok airport

If you are looking to stay near Bangkok airport, the assumption is you will be travelling onward with a flight within Thailand or have an early one to catch the next day. Just to point out that these recommendations are for Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

If you are looking to stay near Don Mueang International Airport (where a lot of domestic flights go from now) we’ll have a post coming soon. But please check where your flight is going from as I have known people turn up at the wrong airport and miss their flights as the airports aren’t close to each other (around an hour’s drive off-peak).

General tips for getting to Bangkok airport

From personal experience, it is always best to take the metro / Skytrain to the airport as this will normally be the quickest and hassle-free way to get to the airport from in and around Bangkok. Yes, a taxi is cheap compared to Western prices and does a door-to-door service.

But if there is heavy traffic or gridlock which can happen in Bangkok, you are going to be sweating on making your flight if you’ve not allowed extra hours for delays getting there.

So always stay near a Metro station that is a few stops from the Skytrain connection if staying in and around central Bangkok.

Budget

Prices in Bangkok just seem to keep going up for accommodation but are still cheaper than in other major cities. For a decent hotel for the night (3 star+) I would expect a cost of around £50 (approximately 2,000 THB). You can always get cheaper but standards will drop in location, decor etc. Airport hotels can normally be cheaper and a range here should be around £20 – £50 (900 – 2,000 THB)

Location

As above in this blog, you can still stay in central Bangkok if you are well connected with the metro/ Skytrain you can be there within an hour for the cost of about £1 (40 THB). If you really have an early start then the closer to the airport the better and that will be reflected in my recommendations below.

Mariya Boutique Hotel

Mariya Boutique Hotel is located just a 10 min drive from the airport, rooms start at just £27 (1,100 THB) a night most of the year round. It has a great rating on booking.com and is located in the suburb of Lat Krabang. If you spend a little more you can also get a return airport transfer if needed. All rooms come with air conditioning and soundproofing/double-glazed windows so will in sure a good night’s sleep.

Avagard Capsule Hotel – Suvarnabhumi Airport

Avagard Capsule Hotel – if you fancy a quirky experience and want to remain within the airport then this is a great option, you can stay for set times during the day or overnight if needed. The only downside here is each pod is a ‘single’ bed only, so travelling alone is no problem and costs around £19 (850 THB) for a 7-hour day stay or from £46 (2,000 THB) for a 15-hour overnight stay. You will save on any travel costs and it couldn’t be less hassle as you’ll be just a few minutes walk from check-in and also includes free wifi.

Vismaya Suvarnabhumi Hotel

Vismaya Suvarnabhumi Hotel is another hotel located just a 10 min drive from the airport and just like Mariya Hotel, it has a very high rating on booking.com and is located in the same area. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool if you want to unwind, the price is from around £25 (1,000 THB), and you can also pay a little more to include breakfast and even a one-way airport transfer.

FX Hotel Metrolink Makkasan

FX Hotel so this one isn’t so close to the airport but has great access to the airport as well as the city if you want to hybrid it, I have actually stayed here a few times myself and found it a great location and even stayed here when I had an early morning flight but wanted to still enjoy one last night out in the City itself. The hotel is pretty basic but you have the Metrolink on your doorstep which will get you to the city within 30 mins and to the airport within 30 mins as well prices are from about £25 (1,000 THB) a night.

Grand BS Airport Hotel Suvarnabhumi

Grand BS – this is a 4-star hotel and looks more like a resort than an airport hotel. The hotel is just 2 miles away from the airport and offers a free shuttle transfer for guests. The rating is good on booking.com but a lot higher for couples who enjoyed their stay more on average. The cost per night is around £29 (1,200 THB).
