What to do for a birthday in New York

In New York, Concrete jungle, where dreams are made of. There’s nothin’ you can’t do, as the song goes. So there must be some great things to do to celebrate your or a friend’s big day and the answer would be yes.

1. Take a Helicopter Tour

One of the most well-known and iconic cities in the world is New York, with every corner seemingly having its claim to fame. Why not go one better than walking or travelling on public transport by getting in the air and a birdseye view of a city that has so much to offer. Depending on your budget there are tour options from a few hundred pounds, to thousands of pounds which even offers a proposal package for you romantics out there.

2. Roof Top Bars/ Observation Deck

Why not try out one of the many roof top bars the city has to offer? You can check out a broad list of them here. An observation deck is a similar option where you can get a cheeky drink thrown in as part of a package. The best decks are Empire State Building, Rockefeller, Edge… The one I would recommend most highly is the ‘Summit’, you can get spectacular views of the city and also get a signature cocktail for around $80 each. You do need to book in advance as this is a hugely popular attraction. You can check out general tickets to any of these observation decks here.

3. See a Broadway Show

A great option to celebrate a birthday in style is to head to the world-famous Broadway, the only avenue to run through Manhattan at an oblique angle. One of the most popular shows is ‘The Lion King’ but there are so many on offer, you can find a comprehensive list here and there is certainly something for everyone.

4. Have a Picnic in a Park

Green spaces aren’t the easiest to come by in New York. But the areas that are dedicated to it are a thing of beauty and are used by locals and tourists alike. You could go to Central Park but my pick would be Prospect Park located in Brooklyn.

5. Go on a shopping spree

You could spend weeks in New York shopping if that is something you enjoy, and have an unlimited amount of money which most of us don’t. But there are still options to window shop and even treat yourself if you find something you like and it is your birthday. There are luxury boutique shops to full on department stores and everything in between. Maceys is a must-visit along with the most famous avenue in the world, Fifth Avenue which has many flagship stores of top brands.
