Bali is a great place to spend your birthday, so much on offer in a warm climate, amazing sunsets and great beaches and ocean to enjoy.
We will cover the main options on the island to really get the most out of a birthday, wherever it’s yours, friends, family or partners.
Beach Day
Spend a relaxing day at one of Bali’s beautiful beaches. Whether you prefer the lively atmosphere of Kuta Beach, the laid-back vibes of Seminyak, or the serene beauty of Nusa Dua, you can soak up the sun, swim, and enjoy beachfront dining. You can easily include a bar in the mix to have a few drinks.
When I was there Seminyak was a great beach to be at, it’s a good mix of things going on along with plenty of different options for having a drink or food. You also have a huge stretch of sand to do as you please and walking around enjoying the sound of the ocean and other people enjoying the same experience.
Sunset Dinner
Bali is famous for its stunning sunsets. Book a reservation at a beachfront restaurant, such as Jimbaran Bay, where you can dine while watching the sun set over the ocean. This is a great shout as these are the best sunsets I’ve ever seen from all the places I’ve travelled. The atmosphere is great as locals and tourists both enjoy the sunset.
One of my recommendations would be Ji Terrace By The Sea at Ji Restaurant, which is located in Canggu. For around 100,000 IDR (8 USD) you can get a decent main course meal. You can spend most of the day here drinking and eating while waiting for the main event of the sunset.
Adventure Activities
If you are feeling like an adrenaline boost then look no further. Bali offers a range of adventure activities like white-water rafting, jungle trekking, and ATV rides. Celebrate your birthday with an experience not to be forgotten.
When booking things like this you are best off checking out Get Your Guide as they aggregate all the options in one place.
Island Hopping
This is a bit of a cheat as you will need to leave the main island to explore Bali’s neighbouring islands These include Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, or the Gili Islands. These destinations offer snorkelling, diving, and opportunities to relax in a quieter setting.
You can certainly book things locally to travel to these islands, from shared transport to private hires.
Cultural Experience
If you want to get peace for your mind, body and soul, then immerse yourself in Balinese culture by attending a traditional dance performance or visiting a temple. The Uluwatu Temple, with its clifftop location, is especially popular for its kecak dance performance at sunset.
I do believe the Balinnese culture is at its richest in Ubud having spent 3-4 days there. If you can stay in Ubud as well will make the experience even better than having to travel back to say Seminyak.
Private Villa Stay
Consider booking a private villa for your birthday celebration. Many villas come with a private pool and personalised service, providing a serene and luxurious setting for your special day in which you can share with your partner and friends.
One that is featured on many Instagram and TikTok videos is Wanakasa at Como Shambala, Ubud. Best to travel with a few people here to keep costs down and can sleep up to 10 at this unique Villa stay where you are at one with nature.
Hot Air Balloon Ride
Enjoy a breathtaking view of Bali from above by taking a hot air balloon ride. It’s a unique and memorable way to celebrate your birthday. This is certainly something a bit different and will provide the wow factor on your birthday with spectacular views and photograph opportunities.
Many different packages to book from sunrise breakfast and tea hot air balloon experience and cost around $100 (USD) for an adult. I would recommend booking before you go and doing your research on the company you choose. Again might be worth looking via Get Your Guide.
Cooking Class
Sign up for a Balinese cooking class to learn how to prepare traditional Balinese dishes. You can enjoy the fruits of your labour and even have a personalised birthday meal. A relaxing way to start a birthday and there are many different options to pick from.
Party in Seminyak or Canggu
If you’re in the mood for a lively celebration, Seminyak and Canggu offer a vibrant nightlife scene with beach clubs, bars, and clubs where you can dance the night away. Potato Head club is a top recommendation that you should certainly go to for a few drinks if not for the whole night.
Tegenungan Waterfall
Visit the picturesque Tegenungan Waterfall near Ubud. It’s a great spot for photos and a refreshing swim. Pack a lunch and maybe a bottle of champagne to have a low key but wonderful celebration.
