Let’s start by saying that Ubud is just not known for its beaches. It is pretty much inland and is known mainly for its Indonesian culture, rich greenery and relaxed way of life. Having said this, some world class beaches are still within a reasonable reach of Ubud. The list below is the best beaches near Ubud in our opinion.
We’ll also give you rough travel times from Ubud so that you can make an informed decision about travelling there. Your only concern should be time really as the cost of a driver and car is always pretty minimal for 12 hours. I would expect a car and driver plus all fuel and parking to cost between $50 and $80 if you negotiate the price.

1. Kuta Beach
Distance from Ubud: 1 hour 35 mins (32 Km)
located on the southwestern coast of Bali, it is a world-renowned beach that has long been synonymous with the island’s vibrant and energetic atmosphere. This iconic beach, with its golden sands stretching for several kilometres.
It is known to have excellent surfing conditions so if you surf, it’s certainly a must for you. It is even a good place to go if you’ve never surfed before and want to learn. Plenty of surf schools and rental shops around the beachfront. Everything is laid back here so no pressure to become a pro surfer by the end. Just have fun.
If surfing isn’t of interest you can just enjoy the sand and sunbathe (remember to use sunscreen). There are also locals playing beach volleyball that you can try to join.
Then towards early evening the place will start to fill up with people looking to enjoy the nightlife here. The sunset is well worth seeing here and how a lot of people will start the night at beachfront bars and then go to clubs as it gets later in the night. If you have a driver then it might be worth leaving after sunset. If you want to party on, talk to them to see if they will hang on and cost.
2. Sanur Beach

situated on the southeast coast of Bali, Sanur beach presents a tranquil and idyllic escape from the bustling scenes of more crowded beaches. Renowned for its calm waters and pristine white sand, Sanur offers a serene atmosphere that is ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and other water activities.

3. Keramas Beach

Keramas Beach is on the eastern coast of Bali. I have put this in the list mainly for it being the closest beach to Ubud. Some see it as a hidden gem, mainly surfers as it has more challenging waves than most of the beaches in Bali. is a hidden gem that has gained popularity among surf enthusiasts seeking a more secluded and challenging spot.
The beach is characterised by its striking black volcanic sand and the majestic backdrop of Mount Agung, Bali’s highest volcano. Distance from Ubud: 1 hour 40 mins (38 Km)
Like Kuta beach, this one is also located on the southwestern coast. You could even visit both the same day if you want to make the most of your journey from Ubud.
Jimbaran beach is known for its seafood dining experience, where the beachfront in the evening is awash with places to eat and enjoy while you listen to the waves and take in your surroundings, the atmosphere is very chilled and some might say romantic.

Bias Tugel Beach nestled on the eastern coast. A lesser known beach and so a great option to pretty much miss the crowds. This beach featured prominently in the film “Eat, Pray, Love.” So if you are a fan or enjoyed the backdrops then I would say visit. I’ve personally never seen the film.

Seminyak Beach, sits on the west coast of Bali. I guess we couldn’t do the list without putting this on it. I guess the name also gives away where it is located.
This beach has a lot to offer and is where tourists will go throughout the day. You have many beachfront bars, high end resorts and just a generally great atmosphere. The beach itself is a great place to sunbathe.
