And despite the city gaining a lot of its money from oil, Dubai’s number one revenue generator by far is now tourism. But is it safe for tourists to walk around Dubai at night? We’ll answer a few questions about safety in Dubai here to put your mind at ease.

At night Dubai city transforms into a playground of lights, music, and culture. But amidst Dubai’s vibrant nightlife, people still question if Dubai is safe at night, especially for women. There are a number of safety measures in place by the local authorities to ensure tourists have a worry-free experience while in Dubai.

Yes. Dubai prides itself on being one of the safest cities in the world, boasting low crime rates and strict law enforcement. People living here generally have a fear of being on the wrong side of the law and do not want to lose their work rights.

These include well-lit streets to advanced surveillance systems. Yes it is. For women specifically, Dubai has created a number of safety initiatives aimed at providing peace of mind and making women feel welcome, especially tourists. This includes designated waiting areas at metro stations and on public transport, as well as female-only sections in trains for added security during late-night journeys. 

I made the mistake of travelling in a female area of a train and got some ‘move away’ signals aimed at me before a girl came up to explain the situation properly and that I need to stand in another carriage.

While I am a guy I found that I didn’t see many women on the streets of Dubai besides the Malls and waterfront areas but I did always felt safe in Dubai even if it has a more male skewed street population.

Now, if we delve into Dubai’s nightlife scene, You will get a range of bars available here despite the lack of tolerance to alcohol,  but if you’re having a drink it’s often on the swanky end with rooftop lounges, bar restaurants or there are some options in the souks (markets). there’s something to suit every taste and preference.

The best advice would be to drink only within the establishments and not take alcohol out on to the streets or you can risk punishment. Getting drunk in public can lead to sentences of six months in jail and hefty fines so it’s best to lay off the beer in the streets.

Where are the best places to drink in Dubai? 

For a good time you can try the Irish Village near the airport. Or if you’re after a taste of luxury you can head to the iconic Burj Khalifa, where you can sip cocktails and look across the city’s amazing skyline at the Atmosphere Lounge. If you’re after something calmer you can go to Dubai Marina, where you will find a good choice of trendy bars and restaurants along the waterfront promenade that are both sophisticated and relaxed. You can also head on a Marina cruise for the evening and enjoy a drink while on the move through the huge Marina area looking at all of the glowing evening lights.

If you’re after a more Arabian experience without alcohol then try the lanes of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, where you can try some traditional shisha cafes and live music venues that give you an old school feel. Here, you can get right into the Emirati culture while trying out some of their Middle Eastern cuisine under the stars.

If you’re looking for a more adventurous evening, you can try a Dubai’s desert safari tour as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Try a 4WD dune excursion, a sunset camel ride and a traditional Bedouin-style feast under the open sky.

The downtown area is very modern, populated and safe due to it being a central hub. The Jumeirah areas are also quiet, modern and safe enough. Deira to the West of the airport might appear to have some more volatility based on what you see as it is an older less maintained area but most of the city is still pretty safe
