Best cheap hotels in West London

West London is often seen as the rich part of London with places like Kensington, Knightbridge and Chelsea. You’ll also hear ‘West is best’ from a lot of locals who have lived in this area for most of their time in London or even their lives but it is notoriously difficult to find decent, cheap hotels in West London.

Highlights of West London… To name but a few:

  • Kensington Palace
  • Hyde Park (just on the edge)
  • Harrods
  • Richmond Park
  • Portobello Road Market
  • Holland Park

Getting around

As with most parts of the capital, West London is well connected with tubes and buses, one of the main lines that serves this area is the Circle and District line. Just make sure you are on the right train as you could end up in Wimbledon when you wanted to be in Ealing.

Best Locations in West London

From my experience, to be well located in West London you are looking to stay around the Hammersmith area. It has easy access to most things, you can get cheaper digs by staying as far out as London Heathrow but then it will take an hour minimum each way to get in and out. Try to use the Elizabeth line as that does run much faster but skips many stations. If staying out near Heathrow is of interest then follow this link for some ideas (you just need to scroll down the page).

Cheap hotels in West London

Budget option

London in general is not cheap and West London is no exception so to get a reasonable 3 star standard accommodation you’ll be looking at around £120-150 a night, there are cheaper options if you don’t mind sharing a dorm room and can get these starting at around £25 a night. I would recommend Hostelworld where you can book the mentioned dorm rooms but also private rooms and pay a non refundable 10% deposit to secure.

Outside of dorms let’s go through our top 5 hotels based on price, location and quality.

1. Premier Inn – Hammersmith

Premier Inn (Ravenscourt Park) – Prices from £51 per night

Located just a 13 min walk from Hammersmith tube station, this is a great choice for a standard hotel stay where you know exactly what you are going to get (Thanks Lenny Henry). You do have Ravenscourt tube stop just across the road but it’s nowhere near as well serviced as Hammersmith. There is parking for an additional £18 a night.

To get the prices under £100 and as close as possible to the £51 you need to book in advance and try to avoid weekends.

2. Comfotel – Shepherds Bush

Comfotel PRPL – Prices from £59 per night

This hotel is in the heart of Shepherds Bush and just a 9 min walk to the tube where you can jump on the Central line and be in central London in 15-20 mins. You also have Hammersmith station just a 12 min walk away so the location couldn’t get much better. Again, you just need to book in advance to get the best price and expect higher prices over peak periods.

3. Hotel 55 – Ealing

Hotel 55 – Prices from £95 per night

OK so I said around Hammersmith is the best location, which it is for West London. But Ealing isn’t bad and this hotel for the pricing has to be in this list as it really is value for money in my opinion. You need to book in advance to get the lower rate but most of the time still under £150, just a 16 min walk to Ealing Broadway station to jump on the District or Central to be where you need to be. There is North Ealing station a stone’s throw away serving the Piccadilly line but recommend going to the major Broadway one. Ealing is a beautiful part of West London with lots of parks and very much family vibes.

4. Euro Hotel – Hammersmith

Euro Hotel – Prices from £95 per night

Back to Hammersmith / Shepherds Bush area with this. Certainly not as nice as the hotel above, but we are now back in the place I feel is best to stay in West London for location and value combined. Just a 13 min walk to Hammersmith station and 8 mins to Shepherds Bush, this is probably the best location out of the 5 recommendations. It also has free WiFi.

5. Holiday Inn – Acton

Holiday Inn London West – Prices from £92 per night

My last option is a little further out like Ealing, but is a good shout as it’s with a recognised hotel brand in a very cool looking building. Located in North Acton and only an 8 min walk to the station, where you can jump on the central line and be in Shepherds Bush within 17mins. Yes over peak times it’s expensive so avoid over £150 a night stays.

Best cheap hotels in West London summary

The best area and pricing to be had is around Hammersmith / Shepherds Bush in the main, with some surrounding areas still within 20 mins of our central located area of West London.

Unfortunately as we said London just isn’t cheap in general so anything under £100 a night with a good location is value for money (with decent cleanliness).

I hope this has given you some great ideas towards saving a few quid as you can find yourself a bargain at one of the above hotels if you decide to stay in West London.
Generally you can find most of the best deals on Booking.com with the exception being bigger chains like Premier Inn where booking direct is the cheapest option and sometimes the only option.
