West London is a great place to be when the sun is shining. But as most of us know, the weather can be hit and miss even in the summer months. So let’s give you some ideas of things to do when the heavens are open in West London.
Below we have listed the top 10 things to do in West London when it’s not the weather for strolls from parks or drinks on a rooftop.
1. Tea at The Ritz
Treat yourself to a quintessential British experience by enjoying afternoon tea at The Ritz in Mayfair. It’s a luxurious and elegant way to pass the time while indulging in delicious tea, sandwiches, and pastries. Could this get anymore British, I don’t think so.
If you shop around and go at certain times you can get a version of Afternoon Tea for 2 at around £50. I would say you’ll need to pre-book rather than just turning up.
There are other options and changing your hot drink for an alcoholic one is never a bad idea. Places like Meghan’s in Kensington is a good option along with Turtle Bay in Hammersmith.
2. Westfield – White City
One of the largest shopping centres in Europe. This place is massive and has everything you need literally under one roof. There are many shops to go to and there is like a little village of designer / brand shops from Gucci to Jimmy Choo.
Many food options upstairs and also dotted around the sides of this impressive building. You can get a Franco Manca pizza to a ‘Sticks and Sushi’. Overall there are about 60 eateries.
There is a cinema on site but also lot’s of activities too. I would highly recommend PuttShack (crazy golf), you can eat and drink here too.
3. Cinema – Fulham Broadway
I think this is a pretty obvious one. Normally you can find something to watch and kill a few hours and immerse yourself in some good action or romantic story. But an insider tip here, if you choose a cinema, normally the Fulham Broadway one has most options of showings. They also seem to have the cheapest prices.
Lastly the cinema is located in the shopping centre where the Fulham Broadway tube stop is. So you can get there and not have to enter the rain on the other side.
4. West End Theatres
West London is close to London’s famous West End, which is renowned for its theater productions. You can easily travel a little out of West London and take in a world class show. I would personally recommend ‘The Lion King’ if this is your first time on Broadway or going with family / larger group, the production alone and visual elements are amazing.
If you fancy something a little more controversial and like to have a laugh. Then I would say go see ‘The Book of Mormon’. This is written by the same guys who wrote South Park and has some laugh out loud moments and also pokes fun at the concept of religion in general.
5. Visit Museums and Galleries
West London is home to several world-class museums and galleries. The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in South Kensington is renowned for its art and design collections.
The Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, both nearby, offer engaging exhibits for all ages. Additionally, the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea showcases contemporary art.
6. Hard Rock Cafe
Located next to Hyde Park. The Hard Rock Cafe is a great option to shield yourself from the elements in this themed styled restaurant.
Enjoy a burger, fries and a drink as you listen to music surrounded by music memorabilia. You can also visit the Hard Rock Vault to see even more history.
7. Kensington Palace
Discover the history of Kensington Palace, a former royal residence. You can explore the State Apartments and learn about the lives of the British royals. It’s an excellent option for a rainy day, as much of the attraction is indoors.
8. Gravity Max – Wandsworth
This place is a bit of a hidden gem located in the Wandsworth Arcade/ shopping centre. It comprises of 3 floors, on the 1st floor you have electric go-karts. Second floor you will find a fun arcade and be able to try to win a cuddle toy or enjoy taking on friends at Mario Kart.
The 3rd floor is where you’ll find interactive games with VR sets, AR darts, bowling and mini golf. Certainly spent many hours here. You will also find the main bar on the 3rd floor.
9. Chelsea Stadium and Museum Tour
If you like football or not, this is a great option as it’s interesting to see how things happen in one of the biggest sports in the world. The good thing about Chelsea is they have been the most successful team in England over the last 20 years.
Seeing the Premiership and Champions League Trophies are impressive. But the best part for me is when you go through the tunnel and the tour guide puts the music on as if you are walking out on the pitch as a player in a big game clash.
10. Go Karting – Acton
Another classic making the list. If you like a little competition and going fast then this could be the one for you to enjoy. Team Sport located in an industrial state, you can race your friends round the course in Electric Karts.
Weekends will be more expensive and booked up but maybe look out for offers.
These are the 10 things to do in West London when the rain is coming down. I would also recommend taking a Go City Pass. You could get the Chelsea tour on it also some food options including Hard Rock Cafe on the Explorer Pass and lots of other activities that will save you money with the Pass.
