Albert Dock in liverpool birthday activity

Former Capital of Culture, the capital of humour, and also my home region. Liverpool has something special about it and it’s definitely made for a good time. Birthdays are special occasions, and celebrating them in Liverpool, a city bursting with culture, history, and entertainment, is a match made in heaven in my eyes. In this post, we will cover the best things to do in Liverpool for a birthday.

Whether you’re into music, history, food, or just like a good party Liverpool has something to offer for everyone. Get a taste of culture or jump into the life of the party in a city that is steeped in famous history. Here are our 8 great birthday ideas for Liverpool.

1. Enjoy some live music at the iconic Cavern Club:

Liverpool is heavily linked with The Beatles, so what better way to start your birthday celebration than by experiencing some live music at the venue where the Fab Four regularly played? The Cavern Club, where The Beatles performed nearly 300 times, is a fantastic arched underground music venue where many of the great musicians have played.

The good thing about this place is that the musicians play at The Cavern Club and pub opposite through the day and night at the weekend so you can pop in most of the time and soak up some tunes.

2. Explore the Royal Albert Dock and learn some Maritime History

Visit the iconic Royal Albert Dock and take in the Maritime-themed Liverpool riverside. There are plenty of amazing old and new buildings down here with nice riverside bars, cafes and galleries. Start by visiting the Merseyside Maritime Museum and. Explore the impressive exhibitions, which cover Liverpool’s maritime past, from its role in the slave trade to its significance during both World Wars. It’s not just educational but also an eye-opening experience.

3. Take a Beatles Magical Mystery Tour

For die-hard Beatles fans, or even those with a faint interest the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour is the ideal birthday activity. You will hop on a colourful bus that will stand out like a beacon in the city and visit significant Beatles-related sites, including childhood homes, schools, and inspirations behind their timeless songs. A keen expert guide will narrate the band’s story for you, making it a memorable, nostalgic journey.

4. Have a group bottomless brunch

Bottomless brunches are a brilliant way to get people together and get the day drinking out of the way so that you have the chance to enjoy the day after too without the hangover being too bad, or at least a bit less severe.

Liverpool has tons of bottomless brunch spots with great food and some of these offer entertainment. There are plenty of choices here including You Can’t Sit With Us, Neighbourhood, Turtle Bay, Mason’s, Las Iguanas. Get merry and get some decent food down you before the night even begins.

5. Watch a football match at Anfield or Goodison Park

If you’re remotely interested in football then going to watch a match at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club, or Goodison Park, home of Everton FC is a must-do while you’re in Liverpool. While Liverpool FC have the larger fan base and more decorated history (and I really don’t like writing that) both teams will offer a loud, intense atmosphere to enjoy on matchday. Ideally, you can get along to a Premier League game if you can bag yourself some tickets then soak it up and watch the drama unfold, just don’t wear the wrong shirt.

If there’s no game on during your visit then you could take a stadium tour. The Liverpool FC Story will offer some more historic highlights and the chance to see trophies and the dressing rooms where plenty of huge moments took place in football history. Both are great birthday experiences to try out.

6. Take a walk through scouse architectural history

Walk through the city of Liverpool to admire its stunning architecture and take in the great history. From the majestic Liverpool Cathedral, one of the largest in the world, to the historic St. George’s Hall, every corner of Liverpool tells a story. The Museum of Liverpool and the World Museum are two other highlights of the city.

7. Enjoy the Liverpool Nightlife

I’ve been out and sampled nightlife all over the UK and I still have to say that Liverpool offers one of the best nights out around. It’s the amount of different bars, pubs and clubs for different tastes all crammed together in areas so that you don’t have to walk far before you reach another good venue. Matthew Street is a real highlight which features the famous Cavern Club and Pub, where many world-famous musicians pay. There’s lots of live music around here.

Concert Square area is another area, which is more aimed at the younger crowd but still has a crazy variety of bars. Some Liverpool highlight bars include Heebie Jeebies, Bierkeller, Pins Social Club, Krazy House, Rubber Soul and Alma De Cuba. All of these are very different so explore the numerous pubs, bars, and clubs that cater to various tastes. Whether you prefer cosy pubs with live acoustic music, trendy cocktail bars, or pulsating dance floors, Liverpool’s nightlife ensures you dance the night away in celebration.

8. Experience some local vibrant entertainment

Liverpool has a great range of entertainment venues where you can have laughs or be amazed by performers. Here’s a list of some places to get a memorable experience out of.

  • Afternoon drag party experience – Moloko
  • Cocktail smuggle experience – Alcotraz
  • A comedy show – Hot Water Comedy Club
  • Famous Theatre show – Liverpool Empire Theatre
  • Cabaret show – FunnyBoyz Liverpool

There’s plenty to enjoy in this great city so get your birthday plans underway and tick a few of these off. If you’re efficient you could fit most of these in over a long weekend so why not make a birthday weekend of it and soak up some scouse culture?
