Hamburg

Hamburg is a pretty famous German city but not many people know about the different layers that it has to offer for visitors. As John Lennon once said I was born in Liverpool but i grew up in Hamburg, he appreciates the place a lot and so should you.

As it’s sat on the Elbe River and near the coast Hamburg is quite a Maritime based city with a lot of waterfront activity, it does bring a calming vibe but also waterfront activities to enjoy.

I found it to be a more contrasting city in Germany where you get the rough and ready Speicherstadt warehouse district and the crazy St Pauli Reeperbahn pub crawl zone versus the cultured Elbphilharmonie architecture, museums and very traditional German, calm, sophisticated vibes of the city all mixed together in one place. It has the benefit of being located near other popular nothern cities such as Bremen, Hannover and Berlin.

The fish market is a must-visit along with Hamburg’s amazing parks, like Planten un Blomen. The nights out can be as crazy as they are sophisticated but there’s loads to see including the stadiums, the museums, the Miniatur Wunderland so check out our posts below to get the best out of it and avoid the boring bits.
