Looking for something to keep the kids entertained this weekend or during the holidays? Then surely Legoland California will do the trick. Below we have listed the top 10 rides in our opinion and a little more detail, so you can plan in advance to get the most out of your visit.
Another thing to touch on is the cost of Legoland, unfortunately it’s not the cheapest with adult tickets starting from around $110 per person. You can get bundles and deals plus add ons so worth doing your research to find the most cost effective deal. If you are looking to do more than just Legoland then I would recommend checking out Go City as you can save up to 50% on top San Diego attractions.
The last thing is age and height restrictions – lot’s of the rides / coasters have these in place so again worth researching fully to make sure there is no disappointment.
Now let’s get on to the top 10 rides:
1. Ninjago the Ride
This was such a hard decision to choose the number 1, as there are so many that could easily take top spot. The main reason is because it should entertain your children the most with its interactive element. Basically you travel through the ride in mainly darkness apart from the bright and amazing visuals on screen that are enhanced with 3D glasses.
There is also a Ninja training camp you can take beforehand (for the kids) to get warmed up before the main event.
The aim is to get as many points as possible by killing bad guys on the screen with hand movements. You are also part of a story as you make your way through the ride and using certain elements to kill the different enemies.
Be warned that the kids may want to keep going on this ride to improve their scores as practice makes perfect.
2. Dragon Coaster
This is a great first roller coaster for your children to go on as it’s got no sudden drops or upside down elements. I would say it’s more like a classic runaway train than even for an adult, is cheap thrills and fun.
You will start off inside looking at different displays all part of the lego castle theme, topped off with a giant dragon. As you come to the end of this, you’ll then fire out into hopefully bright sunshine and have twists and turns.
3. Technic Coaster
OK, I’ve put this one third as certainly one for adults and older kids / teenages. It is the fastest ride at Legoland San Diego. It is still not a scary ride and is far more mellow than it looks as you approach it. But you do have some sharp turns and drops.
There are different speed levels as you go round the track which adds to the excitement and unknown if this is your first time on it.
4. Driving School
This one is for the kids only and a great education for them too. They can also pick up a Legoland California driving license but remind them it’s only valid within the park than out on the open roads!
The cars are not mounted on a track, so the judgement of corners and obstacles are purely down to them. There are also road signs to be aware of along with signals they need to make as part of the course.
Note there are 2 courses one for children between 3-5 and the other being for children 6-13 years old.
Once completed you may have some back seat drivers on the way home.
5. Pirate Reef Riders
It’s pretty all over in the matter of seconds but I have always loved this type of ride. A slow build up to the drop and getting well and truly soaked and hopefully soaking some willing bystanders as well.
Only really advisable to take the ride on a nice day and so refreshing if it’s scorcher. Not too much more to say here as it’s pretty standard.
6. Lost Kingdom Adventure
In a lot of lists this will be near the top and is a great ride and recommend taking. A very similar concept to the Ninja ride but given laser guns to shoot the bad guys along the ride, which are made up of mummies, snakes and skeletons and many more.
You are trying to help the main character ‘Johnny Thunder’ reign supreme. Again like our number 1 Ninja ride you have the chance to obtain a high score.
7. LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure
This ride is very interesting given the real sea life and makes each time unique as you really don’t know what you’ll see or how they’ll interact as you pass through the ride.
You basically board a submarine and have lots of viewing points on the underside of the sub to get the most out of the experience. We have chosen this ride in the top 10 as something a bit different to the norm and will be of high interest for anyone that enjoys seeing sea life.
8. Coast Cruise
Sitting on a boat while you literally cruise through the calm waters to see great lego builds from dinosaurs to world landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and many more.
One to do on a nice day and to maybe break up the more intense coasters or interactive rides. This is a great opportunity to take some photos of the amazing Lego builds.
9. Knights Tournament
A pretty basic ride but the fun element is you can set the level of excitement / scariness. You are at the mercy of a huge metal arm that kind of claws you in. If you are going for the extreme of level 5 then you can expect to be thrown around and going upside down.
The ride is over a moat and sometimes can be facing it or even look like you’ll enter the water but you won’t.
10. Fun Town Fire and Police Academy
It’s a pretty basic ride but for younger kids it will be a lot of fun as they have to attend a rescue given the different situations. It’s a pump action to get from one side of the track to the other and normally the pump action is taken by the adult.
Once you get to the scene of the emergency you have water guns to put out imaginary fires or shoot robbers.
