The Petronas Twin Towers is one of the best known landmarks of KL and overlooks the city. If visiting the capital then you will more than likely see or take time out to go to this attraction.
Being a tourist can be tiring so you’ll need to refuel, so why not do it nearby at one of the many great restaurants with different cuisines on offer.
There are food options to suit every budget and below are options from the cheap to the higher end but in general KL is very reasonable compared to Western prices. If looking for one of the more expensive / luxury options then always best to plan in advance in terms of reservations.
The options we have chosen in this list are based on being within a reasonable walking distance from the Towers themselves. When pricing is mentioned it’s including an alcoholic drink so can be cheaper with there being tax. Also places do charge more for cocktails / gin’s etc.
Imperial Chakri Palace
This traditional Thai restaurant is located within the Ramlee Mall Suria KLCC on level 4. This place is very pleasant and would recommend you go here if you want a nice cheap meal.
For around 60 MYR ($13) you can get a few dishes and a drink even splashing out on an alcoholic one.
Maria’s Signature Suria KLCC
Rated at 4.7 stars out of 5 on Google and literally next door to Petronas Twin Towers. This steakhouse claims to have the best steaks in town. I personally would bypass the streaks if cost is an issue and order something else from the menu.
The decor is nice inside and you get an OK view given that you are basically at ground level. For 100 MYR ($21), you can get a main course, a beer and a dessert which is good value in my eyes.
Marini’s on 57
Located in Tower 3 of the Petronas Twin Towers, Marini’s on 57 is a great option to enjoy stunning views of the city. Here you can enjoy great Italian cuisine and a fine bottle of wine.
The food menu has a wide range of dishes on offer from fresh fish to well known pasta dishes.
Once you have finished your food you can then take to the rooftop to enjoy more drinks and a great atmosphere. On weekends they can have live entertainment from bands to DJ’s.
The rating of this place on Google is 4.5 stars out of 5 but one thing that is a sticking point is price as it’s not the cheapest. If you are wanting to just experience the bar then you can go at Sunset hours (5pm-9pm) and get a draught beer for as little as 18 MYR ($5).
You do need to also come dressed smart casual so I would avoid flip-flops, sleeveless shirts along with sports wear if possible.
Certainly one for a special occasion and great to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
Nobu Kuala Lumpur
Situated in the nearby Menara 3 Petronas building, Nobu is known for its Japanese-Peruvian fusion and is nicknamed “Nikkei” cuisine. Signature dishes include Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail Jalapeño, and the Nobu-style Sashimi. You are able to enjoy panoramic city views from the 56th floor of the building with floor to ceiling windows, which makes it a top choice for fine dining.
As with some of the other options in this list, it’s not going to be the cheapest but if you are conservative with what you buy it can be reasonable.
Be sure to make a reservation especially for weekends as this place gets booked up.
Fuego at Troika Sky Dining
The name “Fuego” translates to “fire” in Spanish and is inspired by south and central America cuisines with tasty tapas, grilled meats and vegetables. Another place that is at the top end of cost but it’s certainly something different.
Located on the 23rd floor you can literally see the Twin Towers in front of you from the huge open balcony and looks especially amazing at night when the Towers are lit up.
Al-Amar
A little further away that requires a 23 min walk or a ‘Grab’ taxi from the Towers is Al-Amar. This place offers authentic Lebanese food. Located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Pricing is mid range for KL and has a 4.2 star rating out of 5 on Google.
No real views to speak of but a good easy option in well finished surroundings. Certainly the star of the show here is the grilled meats on offer.
Kopitiam
There are several Kopitiam outlets in and around the KLCC area. Kopitiam is a popular Malaysian chain that offers a mix of local dishes and Asian favourites at budget-friendly prices. It’s a great place to try dishes like laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, and roti canai.
General options
Suria KLCC Food Court
Located in the Suria KLCC shopping mall at the base of the Petronas Towers, this food court offers a variety of local and international cuisines at very reasonable prices. This is where our Thai restaurant option is located. You can find Malaysian dishes, Chinese, Indian, and fast food options here if you are just looking to grab a quick bite and move on.
Hawker Stalls
A short walk from the Petronas Twin Towers is Jalan Alor, a famous street known for its vibrant street food scene. You’ll find a wide range of affordable Malaysian street food dishes, from satay to noodles and more.
Ampang Food Court
This food court is situated in Ampang Park Shopping Centre, not far from the Twin Towers. It offers various Malaysian dishes and is a popular spot for locals working in the area.
Central Market Food Court
A bit further from the towers but still accessible, the Central Market food court has stalls serving Malaysian and Asian dishes at reasonable prices. It’s a great place to sample local flavours.
