Thailand weather in December

Thailand in December

In this blog post we hope to answer common questions on Thailand weather in December, before Covid I personally used to go to Thailand every November / December and found it to be the perfect time for a few reasons. Mainly going back to the office in mid December with a tan and having escaped some of the winter weather in the UK.

Is Thailand warm at Christmas

In my opinion December is one of the best times of year to visit Thailand, the weather is perfect. It’s warm enough to enjoy but not too warm compared to other months where you’ll just want to stay indoors with air conditioning on full blast.

Is Phuket hot in December

You can expect lows of 24 degrees to 32 degrees of highs.

Monsoon season Thailand

Is December monsoon season in Thailand

December is classified as a monsoon season but when I have been there, I have only experienced a few real wet days. From the data it says there could be as many as 1 wet day in 3.

What are the best and worst months to visit Thailand

In my opinion and from what most people and travel companies say, November through to February is the best time to visit Thailand as you will avoid the extreme heat and humidity as well as avoid July / August when a lot of families will head there with the kids having around 6 weeks off.

Is Thailand expensive in December

There will still be a lot of demand from people trying to escape the cold weather around Europe and even the USA. So demand for flights will increase and normally over December as people fly across the globe to see family and friends will impact routes and prices will be higher.

If going in and around Christmas you’ll normally find that prices increase from the 9th December and are high until around the 15th January. So I would say to book as soon as you can. The earlier you can go and later you can come back will also help.

In terms of costs locally, things will be more about supply so certain hotels might get booked up quicker. But in general most things will be the same prices when you actually get to Thailand.

Southern Thailand khlong-sok

Which side of Thailand is better in December

As I’ve said, December is a great time to go to Thailand as the weather is still warm. Having said this, the South of Thailand is probably better than the North that might experience a few cold snaps (for Thailand). Bangkok will also be a good place to be, but surely you’ll be looking to go South and get some beach time in.

Can you swim in Thailand in December

I think this is the perfect time to go swimming, I personally avoid swimming properly in the sea, more a paddle and to swim at the pool at my hotel or Airbnb.

Is Thailand cheap or expensive

Thailand is still good compared to Western prices. But compared to say 15-20 years ago the THB has got stronger against the dollar and the pound for example. There are also a lot more Western places in say Bangkok that command Western prices. You can still live and enjoy Thailand for much less than at home.

Phuket big buddha

Can we go to Phuket in December

Absolutely – it’s a great time to go to Phuket.

What clothes to wear in Phuket in December

The weather is still going to be shorts and T-shirt I would say. Maybe take a jumper or pull over for the evening as it might feel a little chilly in the air.

What is the wettest month in Phuket

September is normally the wettest month in Phuket. So if you really can’t stand the rain then certainly avoid travelling in September to Thailand in general, not just Phuket.

Where is the driest place in Thailand in December

The South is the driest place to be in December.

Central Bangkok city

Is Thailand a good place to visit in December

100% yes, to be fair, Thailand is good to visit anytime of year (maybe avoid the wet season). It’s just such a friendly place, with great food on offer and so many different things to see and do. There is something for everyone.

What is the coldest month in Thailand

December is the coldest month of the year but nowhere like in Europe. Most days will be like decent summer days back home.

When not to visit Thailand

In my opinion there are two sets of dates to avoid. Firstly April-May, the reason being it’s so hot and humid. It can be unpleasant and mean hampering your activities.

The other sets of months are July through to September, you’ll find the most amount of rainfall in these months, you might also find some things are closed or not going ahead due to it being the biggest off month for tourists too as most will stay away.

Which is the cheapest time to go to Thailand

As mentioned above not much will change in terms of local costs. The main change you’ll see is in flights. Normally the lowest season globally is May for travelling. But we want to avoid May. I think a good time to book for is November, coming back early December.  I would use Skyscanner to compare the flight prices of different airlines.
