Having lived in Richmond I have visited many of the cafes it offers. On a Saturday morning they can be heaving like a pub on a Saturday night as people get their caffeine fix.
In the list we put the top Cafes also you might find the odd pub in the list, is it cheating? I would say not as the pubs have upped their coffee game to cater for the demand especially as people now look for places to work remotely and I guess a Pint at 9am while working isn’t an option.
There are many options in Richmond but pick out the ones we feel offer the best experience, also where possible staying away from the big brands like Starbucks etc.
1. QBrü Coffee
Located just a 10 min walk from Kew Gardens, this lovely little cafe serves great sandwiches and pastries. You can also get your egg fix if needed! As a one off, you will enjoy great service and personal experience.
Great place to sit outside if the weather permits and also a great stopping point before visiting Kew gardens or coming back from. Also you’ll normally see a few dogs in and around the place, as locals bring their furry friends to enjoy their breakfast with.

2. Cafe Nano
Somewhat of an unknown and a little off the beaten track, Cafe Nano is a small local cafe. If you look on Google the rating is 4.9 stars at the time of writing this.
Looking for a good feed with a cup of coffee, at a very reasonable price, then this is the place to go. They have a great selection of baked goods too and normally are not too busy.

3. Tide Tables Cafe
Now this place is not to be missed on a sunny day. You can enjoy your first brew of the day on the banks of the river in their garden terrace (next to the ferry dock).
It is billed as a hip ‘veggie and vegan cafe’ so you can also enjoy healthy choices as you take in the stunning views of your surroundings.

4. Coffeeology
I think the name says it all and this place is super busy, so it can be a struggle to get a seat in peak times. But the coffee is laundered as the best around and at the end of the day, that is what we are looking for, right?!
This outlet is part of a small chain with locations also in Brentford and Chiswick.

5. The Robin Cafe
A local cafe that has great coffee, one Italian claiming to be as good as what you’d get back in their home country. Now this one is a little bit of a cheat, as it is located a good 20 mins out of the centre of Richmond.

6. Meghan’s Richmond
Having seen more store openings in recent years, Meghan’s is a great place to have a coffee and breakfast meal. The decor reminds me of the seaside. You will need to book in advance on weekends as normally you struggle to find a table without a wait.
Reasonably priced, as you can normally get a main and coffee for about £20, the atmosphere is normally buzzing as pretty much always got a steady amount of diners.

7. The Ivy Richmond
Now this is a tricky one to get in, as it’s more of a restaurant but is a great destination especially in the winter months to get a hearty brunch and a hit of caffeine. The Ivy sounds expensive but it’s pretty reasonable for what it is, you can also get some very instagrammable photos in there and enjoy the amazing decor.
For around £25 you’ll get a good brunch dish and a cup of coffee.

8. The Alberts Deli
This place is a great place to stop off and have a drink along with some baked goods. They source their ingredients from independent producers.
The decor is very busy in my opinion but works well and is better than bland. Certainly a great place to meet up with a friend to catch up.

9. Gails Richmond
This place is popping up everywhere in London. I first experienced Gails in Brook Green (between Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith). The ham and cheese croissants are amazing and this is mainly why it ‘just’ makes the list.
The Coffee from my experience, is average but the bakery goods are so good. The only other thing is cost, it’s certainly not the cheapest place you’ll find for a coffee and a breakfast snack / meal.
Normally pretty busy so it has a good atmosphere and nice fresh decor.

10. Dharma Coffee Richmond
Very slick and modern interior, not much seating but prices are very fair and maybe a place to grab and go while on your way to work or to stretch your legs while working from home. It seems it was born in Brighton and decided to open one in Brighton.

11. Kiss the Hippo Richmond
Much more of a place to get a drink only. Their main USP is around sustainability. Their coffee is roasted in London. A very contemporary looking shop, not much seating but not overly busy as people tend to buy and go.

12. Orange Tree Hotel
I did mention I was going to include a pub. Now this place actually is a hotel as well. Located just a 3 min walk from the station this place is very much an old school English pub with some modern touches.
I have actually worked remotely from here and had a coffee and pastry and must say, it was good quality and reasonably priced.

13. The Shaftesbury
Shock horror, it’s another pub. Again a great place to work remotely and also have a good beer garden out back or to enjoy your coffee. In winter it’s a great place to go as they normally have a fire roaring in the main bar to stay warm.
